AUSTRALIAN OUTBACK OPAL SHOWS
Barbara & Tim Thomas, The House of Tibara, since 1976
Each year Australia has several outback opal festivals. One is near a tiny hamlet of YOWAH. (think Yowwah) Yowah is near the famous Koroit and the less well known Blackgate.
YOWAH OPAL FESTIVAL & DESIGNER JEWELLERY COMPETITION
Barbara & friend Ossie in Yowah opal Festival>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Yep, they know how to party in Yowah, QLD. The next Yowah Opal Festival (weather permitting) is in July. (Austalian winter) It was rained out in 2010; flooded & muddy roads made everything impassable. There is only one hotel room in Yowah. Otherwise, you camp or stay with a friend or drive daily from the nearest town. It’s really a three day show with the bar open all three days. The opal festival is a very interesting collection of opal from all around the area; this year, however, unless something changes, we do not expect to see much from Blackgate or Koroit because the mines were also flooded and did not appear that they would reopen this year. Still, we had lots of fun, saw lots of Yowah opal, & met great people. See www.outbacknow.com.au.
